Both exams
  • Psychology · Friday 30 October, 9.00 am ·
  • Biology · Monday 2 November, 9.00 am ·

Each paper: 15 minutes reading, 2 hours 30 minutes writing. Section A is 40 multiple-choice questions (40 marks); Section B is 80 marks of short and extended answers. That is about 75 seconds per mark.

Study guides

Read online, or download the printable PDF. Each topic guide starts with Say it exactly: the definitions that score, and the mechanism chains carried all the way to the outcome.

Timed paper

Sit a section under exam conditions

Pick a length, for example 20 marks in 25 minutes. The clock runs at exam pace (75 seconds per mark) and every answer is marked the same way as practice.

Exam routines
  • Marks = points. Tick the margin once per mark before you write, then give each tick its own point.
  • Finish the chain. End every explain answer with "…which means" and the exact outcome the question asked about.
  • One answer only. A crossed-out or hedged second answer earns nothing and costs time.
  • Never overwrite a correct answer unless you can name the specific error.
  • Final audit: for each answer ask "did I name the outcome?" and "did I use the exact term?"
Mark-loss patterns

These patterns come from your marked SACs. Each one closes after 3 correct answers in a row that avoid it.

Answers to review

Every answer where you lost marks, with the ideal answer and the examiner's notes. Read it, then mark it "I understand this now" or "Still unsure". Add a note to yourself if it helps.

Ask the tutor

Ask about anything in the course: "why is this an explain question?", "check my definition of…", "give me a harder one on…".
